The Seventh-day Adventist Church has set dates for the inauguration of new administrative units in Uganda commonly referred to as Fields or Dioceses.

According to the statement issued by Uganda Union Executive Secretary, Pr Nicholas Bitamazire dated March 9, 2024, the Mid-Western Uganda Field will be inaugurated on May 28, 2024, Busoga Field on May 30, Mid-East Field on May 31, Elgon Field on June 2 and East Buganda Field on June 4.

The East and Central African Division (ECD) Executive Committee meeting held on April 30th, 2024 in Nairobi, Kenya approved the new Fields.

The Committee resolved to uphold the proposal put forth by the survey committee, approving the restructuring of four entities within the Uganda Union.

The Archbishop of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Uganda, Dr Moses Maka, recently justified the aim to decentralise leadership through the creation of new administrative units as a move to extend services closer to the people.

The four new administrative units (Fields) are the equivalent of a diocese.

The East Buganda Field covers four political districts Buikwe, Kayunga, Buvuma, and Mukono. Mt Elgon Field and Busoga Field in Eastern Uganda and another Field in Fort Portal.

ECD general field secretary Pr Paul Muasya led the team that assessed the readiness of the four Fields. Others were under secretary Dr Tom Arunga Ogal, Education director Dr Andrew Mutero, associate treasurer Eld Jackson Orango, and North East Congo Union president Pr Rudatinya Mwangachuchu.

Pr Maka implored church members to double their efforts in evangelism, membership, quality leadership, financial freedom, and infrastructure development.

He said the church leadership has gazetted 2024 as the year of evangelism and stewardship calling church leaders at all levels to embrace the evangelistic impact.

"Getting a Field means ministry. You must work hard to sustain the new entity," Pr Maka implored.
