The Seventh-day Adventist Church in East-Central Africa Division (ECD) convenes in Nairobi, Kenya, beginning Monday, August 25, 2025, for a two-day meeting that will see the election of Archbishops in eleven countries, including Uganda.
The 11 countries are Uganda, Burundi, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, South Sudan and Tanzania.
Ugandans are upbeat about the new Union Mission president (Archbishop) following the elevation of Pr Dr Moses Maka as executive secretary at ECD in the recent global church election held in St Louis, USA. ECD president, Pr Dr Blasius Ruguri, was retained.
The new leaders will serve for a period of five years (2025-2030).
The Nairobi session will also elect executive secretaries and treasurers for the 11 countries.
ECD is one of the global divisions of the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. Established to coordinate the church’s activities and mission work in the region.
ECD operates through a framework of unions, conferences, and missions, each responsible for local church administration and ministry activities. The division provides strategic leadership, support, and resources to enhance the effectiveness of the church’s mission.
Every five years, the Seventh-day Adventist Church gathers its global family for an event known as the General Conference Session.
This year, from July 3 to 12, 2025, more than 100,000 people gathered at St. Louis, Missouri, United States, for the 62nd Session. This is where division presidents, their secretaries and treasurers were elected.
