Kitara FC failed to open up a four-point gap at the top of the Uganda Premier League standings after settling for a 1-1 draw against Mbarara City today at Masindi Stadium.

Despite dropping two points, the Royals remained top on 48 points with three games left to climax the season. Vipers and BUL come second and third with 46 points each, while SC Villa and NEC are fourth and fifth with 45 and 43 points.

Dennis Omedi who has been the club's best player this season scored in the 9th minute and took his tally to 13 goals this season, two behind league top scorer and KCCA FC forward Muhammad Shaban.

Kitara who will have to host Busoga United and Gaddafi at home plus Soltilo Bright Stars way in their final games, have to at least win all of them and pray their competitors drop points to win their first league title.

Coach Brian Ssenyondo was short of words after they conceded late

"We scored early but we failed to defend well in the final minutes. Of course, it's disappointing looking at how we conceded late but we shall try to improve in the next game," noted Ssenyondo

Kitara managed to pick two points from Mbarara having settled for a goalless draw in the first-round encounter at Kakyeka stadium.

This was also a reunion for Jude Ssemugabi, Brian Aheebwa, Solomon Okwalinga, Paul Mucureezi, Jasper Aheebwa, and coach Ssenyondo among others since they facing their former employers in Mbarara.

The result saw Ankole Lions go five games without a win. They have lost twice (KCCA 4-1 and SC Villa 2-1) and shared spoils twice (Maroons and UPDF 0-0 respectively) in other encounters.

However, Mbarara City who were the better side on the day but failed to get the three points since they were not good enough in the final third. They remained 11th with 30 points.

"I think we played well only that we didn't take the so many chances we created. But it's a point worth it since it's not easy to pick a point away in Masindi. We look forward to the next games," said coach Wasswa Bbosa

Elsewhere, URA settled for a goalless draw with Busoga United at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium in Wakiso.
