Uganda Premier League champions Vipers have sacked their head coach Charles Livingstone Mbabazi.
In a club statement shared on their official website and social media, they confirmed the development.
"We announce today that the decision has been taken to part company with our head coach Livingstone Mbabazi," part of the statement read.
"We thank Mbabazi for his contribution and wish him well for the future."
Assistant head coach Richard Wasswa has been entrusted with the responsibility of handling the team for the remainder of the season.
"Richard Wasswa will take the team as Acting Head Coach for the remainder of the season, along with Jose Esdras Costa Lopez, Fred Muhumuza, Richard Kasule Bakabulindi & Ali Kimera (goalkeeping coach) as assistants," the statement added.
This has been long awaited and it has not surprised many because, over the past two weeks, speculations of Mbabazi's possible sacking have been making rounds in the media.
This was after going weeks without appearing on the Vipers technical bench in their recent matches which all have been handled by Wasswa except the 1-0 home defeat to KCCA.
It is important to recall that before Mbabazi started missing Vipers games, the performance of the team had declined.
He joined the club in January to succeed the sacked coach then Leonardo Neiva.
He leaves Vipers in third place on the table, three points behind table leaders Kitara FC who are on 44 points.
Tomorrow, they have a tough league encounter away from home against SC Villa at Muteesa II Stadium in Wankulukuku.
Both sides are separated by a point, with Vipers on 41 while Villa are on 40 in fourth place.
Victory for the Venoms will take them level on points with Kitara 44 while for Villa, they will go level on points 43 with second-placed BUL in the title race.
Both teams come into today's fixture after registering contrasting results in their respective previous games.
Vipers beat UPDF 2-1 at home while Villa drew 1-1 with Busoga United at FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru.
This match was initially supposed to be played at the start of last month but both teams had some of their players on national duty with the Uganda Hippos in the All-Africa Games in Ghana.
In the reverse fixture at Kitende, spoils were shared in a 1-1 draw, Patrick Mbowa scored for the Vipers whereas Gavin Kizito got Villa's goal.
