Singer Weasel has explained that he did not know that his concert date coincides with that of Kream Productions' Haruna Mubiru. On his part, Haruna expressed shock about the development.
"No one intends to have a show on the same date while organising concerts because artistes don’t call to ask each other about their plans. They just find a suitable date and go for it," he said during a press conference organised to make preparations for the reopening of Nakivubo War Memorial Grounds Hamz Stadium on May 30, 2024.
Weasel urged Haruna to stand by his date, saying they have a different fan base.
He, however, noted that having various artistes staging concerts in a day shows that the industry has grown and more talented stars have been birthed.
"It's not like it used to be in the past that Uganda had only the big three artistes (Jose Chameleone, Bobi Wine and Bebe Cool). It’s only the haters who will think that the artistes are at a war with each other, but an artiste will understand it because if you already know that you have supporters, then why would you be intimidated by someone setting up a concert with you on the same date?" Weasel wondered.
Weasel, part of the GoodLyfe Crew with singer Mowzey Radio who died in February 2018, said he has taken long to stage a concert, saying as a duo, they used to have perfect concerts.
He explained that he had to take time to get organised in order to deliver the best as expected of him.
When many artistes are about to stage concerts, they tend to release new music, but Weasel is comfortable that his old music such as Obudde and Lwaki Onumya released under GoodLyfe Crew will do the magic come August 9, 2024 at Hotel Africana in Kampala.
"The ones who sing songs which don’t last on the market for long will be the ones under pressure to release new songs," Weasel said.
Weasel noted that although he has new music, he doesn't rely on it, taking notes from reggae legend Madoxx Ssematimba.
"Madoxx hasn’t released new music, but he is still competitive in the music industry because of his good music. The same applies to GoodLyfe," Weasel said.
Weasel distanced himself from those who say events promoter Nobat Events is organising his concert as a way of seeking for sympathy. Rather, he said his fans love him.
"A person who doesn’t love you won’t invest money in you," he said.
Weasel revealed that Nobat is a good friend to the Mayanja family of singing brothers Jose Chamelone and Pallaso.
"He started with Chameleone way back, then Pallaso, then this show. Now is the time for my concert," he said.
Weasel emphasised that he is a talented artiste.
"If I wasn’t talented, Nobat would have gone to the streets and picked an upcoming artiste and invested his money in him or her."
