MUKONO - The Vice Chancellor of Uganda Christian University (UCU), Prof. Aaron Mushengyezi, has appealed to the Government agencies responsible for security to step up the supervision of private security firms and other firearm-carrying personnel, in order to control their misuse.

The appeal comes on the back of recent developments where some university students have fallen victim to incidents of gun violence.

Mushengyezi was speaking on Tuesday, June 6 at the induction ceremony for first-year students enrolled at the university for various study programs for the Trinity (May) semester at the UCU main campus in Mukono.

He warned the students to be careful about how they live their lives, as wise and mature citizens, and avoid exposing themselves to dangerous situations.

“Be careful as you go about your social lives and observe personal security. Be vigilant at all times and be your brother and sister’s keeper,” he said.

Mushengyezi said the university is continuously improving the campus environment to ensure that it is ambient and safe for all students so that they achieve the academic excellence they came to pursue.
