Govt to gazette all teachers

This reform is expected to commence this financial year, 2026/2027, with the full operationalisation of the National Teachers’ Council that will regulate the teaching profession as provided for under the recently enacted National Teachers’ Act 2026. Under the new law, the council will take over the regulatory functions for teachers, including the issuance of teachers’ licences, which was initially performed by the Teacher, Instructor Education and Training (TIET) department of the education ministry.

In addition, the new law demands that only teachers with a teaching licence will be allowed to operate in both government and private schools.
