Türkiye’s TİKA boosts IUIU Vocational Training with modern kitchen equipment

KAMPALA - The Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) Female Campus has received modern kitchen equipment from the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA), a donation expected to strengthen vocational education and equip students with practical catering skills.
The equipment was handed over to Hajjat Madinah Nabukeera, Head of the IUIU Female Campus, during a ceremony at the university's Kampala Campus in Kabojja today (Thursday).
The donation, made through Türkiye's Ministry of Culture and Tourism and TİKA, forms part of Türkiye's broader development cooperation with Uganda aimed at improving educational infrastructure, enhancing skills development and strengthening bilateral relations.
He said the new kitchen equipment will enhance practical training in catering and food preparation, enabling students to acquire hands-on skills that will prepare them for self-employment and entrepreneurship.

He noted that since TİKA began partnering with IUIU in 2016, the agency has implemented several capacity-building projects, enabling more than 514 young women to acquire vocational skills such as tailoring, helping many become self-employed, create jobs and improve their livelihoods.
Ambassador Ak said the partnership reflects the strong and growing relationship between Uganda and Türkiye and reaffirmed his country's commitment to supporting initiatives that promote education, skills development and sustainable economic growth.
Despite welcoming the donation, IUIU management appealed for further support, particularly in establishing modern laboratories to strengthen practical learning and expand vocational training opportunities for students.
The donation adds to TİKA's growing portfolio of development projects in Uganda, which focus on improving education, healthcare, agriculture and community livelihoods while fostering closer cooperation between the two countries.
