Soroti University gets regional innovation hub

The Wednesday, March 20, 2024, launch is part of the Government's initiative to foster information and communication technologies (ICT) innovation and digital skills across the country and support the establishment of regional hubs. 

Baryomunsi, while officiating the launch of the ICT hub, said the Government is greatly committed to continue supporting the ICT hub.

SOROTI - Information minister Dr Chris Baryomunsi has launched a regional innovation hub at the Soroti University in Soroti city.

The Wednesday, March 20, 2024, launch is part of the Government's initiative to foster information and communication technologies (ICT) innovation and digital skills across the country and support the establishment of regional hubs. 

Currently, regional hubs have been set up in universities at Kabale and Muni with the latest addition now in Soroti.

The ICT ministry advanced 250 million shillings to Soroti University as startup capital to establish the hub in the 2022/2023 financial year.

Baryomunsi, while officiating the launch of the ICT hub, said the Government is greatly committed to continue supporting the ICT hub.

Meanwhile, Soroti University vice-chancellor Prof. Robert Ikoja said the hub is expected to bridge the skills gap in the region.

Prof Christopher Egau, the project manager, said the ICT centre will stimulate the digital revolution in Teso.

ICT ministry permanent secretary Amina Zawede called upon the university to come up with packages that encourage female students to interest themselves in ICT.
