KAMPALA - Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa has challenged Uganda Management Institute (UMI) graduates to embrace the role of problem-solvers.

“While our country has many graduates, there are too few who truly tackle the problems that we face. UMI, however, has built a strong reputation for nurturing problem-solvers,” he said on Friday (March 14).

He was presiding over UMI’s 22nd graduation convocation in Kampala city. The ceremony saw 3,294 students graduate in various disciplines.

Ten students obtained ordinary diplomas, 2,411 postgraduate diplomas, 867 master’s degrees, and six PhDs.

“We share one country. I urged the graduates to take pride in and love our nation, which offers the unique opportunity for even the most seemingly impossible dreams to become achievable,” Tayebwa said.

He also told the graduates that in the near future, many of them will rise to hold influential positions in both the public and private sectors.

He noted that life is a continuous learning journey and encouraged the graduates to see Friday’s graduation not as an endpoint but as the beginning of a lifelong pursuit of knowledge and personal development.

“Postgraduate studies require significant sacrifice and dedication. Today (Friday), I had the privilege of joining the UMI graduands in celebrating their resilience, determination, hard work, and discipline—the qualities that have led them to don their academic gowns,” Tayebwa said.

Rosemary Seninde, the National Resistance Movement party director of mobilisation was awarded a PhD and the state minister for National Guidance, Godfrey Kabbyanga, were among the graduates.

Kabbyanga obtained a master's degree in public administration and management.
