Uganda Heart Institute seeks sh252b to construct new home

The Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on National Economy, John Bosco Ikojo, said out of the 10 acres given to UHI, 15% is still encumbrance.

Omagino, the executive director of UHI said they were waiting for the Parliamentary Committee on National Economy to approve the loan so that they can start the construction of the new facility.

KAMPALA - Uganda Heart Institute (UHI) is seeking for sh252b o construct a new home in Naguru, Kampala.

Dr John Omagino, the executive director of UHI said they were waiting for the Parliamentary Committee on National Economy to approve the loan so that they can start the construction of the new facility.

He said the project will be developed in three phases, the first phase will involve construction of 250-bed capacity which will be expanded in phase two to 500 and eventually 750 beds in the third phase.

Speaking during the tour of the UHI newly acquired 10 acre-land in Naguru-Nakawa with members of Parliament Omagino said, “the new facility will have the capacity to attract referrals from abroad such that we reverse the issue of patients going to India, South Africa, Korea for treatment.’’

He added that they were planning to build thirteen regional centres in all Regional hospitals, these include Kabale, Arua, Mbarara, Maska, Hoima, Fortportal, Gulu, Jinja, Mbale, Soroti, Moroto.

“If they can pass the loan our prayer is to launch the project on 1st July and it will be completed in 2 years,’’ he said.

The Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on National Economy, John Bosco Ikojo, said out of the 10 acres given to UHI, 15% is still encumbrance while 85% was secure and they anticipate the project can kick start when the committee approves the loan.
