New daily COVID-19 infections dip under 600 for first time in a month

The new daily COVID-19 infections in Uganda have continued to drop, which should give the country hope as the country battles the second wave of the pandemic.

According an update released on Wednesday, Uganda's new infections dropped to below 600 (543), the lowest in the last month. This brings cumulative confirmed cases in Uganda to 79,977.

At the same time, COVID-19 patients who have recovered from the virus increased to 52,961 people. Of these, 579 were registered in a 24-hour period.

The number of people who have been vaccinated now stands at 856, 025.

However, hospital admissions are still high. There are 1,116 people admitted to hospitals while the number of those who have succumbed to the virus in a 24-hour period is at 33.

In total, the ministry said 1,023 people have so far died since July last year when the first death from COVID-19 was confirmed in Uganda.

According to the breakdown of new infections, Kampala contributed 231, Wakiso 41, Butaleja 25, Mbale 26, Kyotera 16, Masaka 15, Lwengo 15, Nakasongola 17, Arua 14, Kanungu 13, Busia 11, Jinja 10, Adjumani 9, Mityana 7, Nebbi 6, Hoima 5, Apac 5 and Buhweju 5.

Luwero had 5, Kabarole 4, Soroti 4, Buliisa 4, Kyenjojo 4, Kakumiro 4, Mubende 4, Kibaale 4, Packwach 3, Sheema 3, Bukedea 3, Lyantonde 2, Kapchorwa 2, Tororo 3, Kotido 2, Mukono 2, Lira 1, Kasese 3, Mayuge 1, Kaabong 1, Amuru 2, Masindi 1, Buikwe 1, Gulu 1, and Kibuku 1.
