Man dies after being hit by electric pole

A 24-year-old Anastanzia Kyokunda died on spot and another got injured after they were hit by an electricity pole in Hoima recently.

KANUNGU- Police in Kanungu is investigating circumstances under which a 35-year-old man was hit by an electric pole and died instantly.

The deceased was identified as Ivan Mbabazi, a casual labourer at Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited, Kanungu branch.

The incident, according to Kigezi Police Spokesperson Elly Maate, happened on December 27 at around 3:00pm at Nyakabungo village, Rugyeyo sub-county in Kanungu district.

"Mbabazi was a resident of Nyamirama sub-county. 

While at work with other staff trying to give support to an old pole so that it is replaced, they were overpowered and it hit  Mbabazi," said Maate.

He was rushed to Katate Health Centre IV from where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

"Police was notified, visited the scene, post-mortem done and handed over to relatives for burial," he said.
