FIRE OUTBREAK

KABALE-Tragedy on Tuesday morning rocked Ruagarama Nursing and Midwifery School located on Rugarama hill in Kabale municipality following a fire outbreak.

The early morning fire gutted an administration block destroying property worth million shillings.

Eyewitnesses said the fire started at around 06:00 am from a stationery room.  It later extended to the whole building.

According to Silas Tusiime, the guild president, a student who was heading to the administration block noticed the fire and later reported to the school authorities.

Tusiime said the fire destroyed mostly stationery, graduation gowns, gloves, and the ceiling.

"We tried our best to fight this outbreak but we could not do much since we only had two fire extinguishers and this fire was too strong. Police was informed but it even delayed to appear at the scene," he said.

The fire is suspected to have resulted from a short circuit.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Moses Muhanguzi, the head of Police Fire Brigade Department in charge of Kigezi sub-region said that though the fire destroyed property including the roofing, nobody was injured.

Muhanguzi added that police fire brigade managed to put off the fire before it spread to other buildings.

"We cannot fully ascertain the cause of the outbreak but we have asked the school not to use this building until Police has fully supervised the building in question," said Muhanguzi.
