The people of Arua Municipality will once again vote their representative to parliament on Wednesday.

ARUA MUNICIPALITY BY-ELECTION

Former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) president Gen. Mugisha Muntu has said he is unapologetic for supporting Kassiano Wadri, one of the 12 candidates vying for the vacant Arua Municipality seat.

"…Wadri is a NEC [National Executive Committee] member supported by the party district officials. I offer no apologies for supporting him," Muntu said in a tweet.

While addressing an FDC weekly press briefing on Monday, deputy secretary general Harold Kaija said Muntu could face disciplinary action for de-campaigning the official party candidate, Bruce Musema, in favour of Wadri, an independent.

"[Gen] Muntu has to answer for going against party rules and regulations.

"This is too bad for the biggest (Opposition) party in the country. But we shall handle this because it is just a friendly-fire, as the soldiers say when they fire at each other," Kaija said.

The people of Arua Municipality will once again vote their representative to Parliament on Wednesday.

The seat fell vacant after MP Ibrahim Abiriga and his brother Saidi Kongo were shot dead on June 8 by unknown assailants as they approached his home in Kawanda, Wakiso district.

The other candidates who are in the crowded race are Nusura Tiperu (NRM), Musema, Kennedy Madira (Democratic Party) and Jaffar Alekua from Justice Forum (JEEMA).

Others are independents Jackson Atima, Robert Ejiku, Francis Nyero, Sunday Anguandia, Alfred Nyakuni, Simon Avutia and Safi Bavuga.
