Uganda Tour of Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka Dev 168/5 Uganda 157/6

(Sri Lanka win by 11 runs)

Kenneth Waiswa scored a match-best 59 and Alpesh Ramjani added 52, but it was not enough for Uganda A to offset the struggles of the top order and stave off a fifth straight loss to Sri Lanka Development.

Chasing 168, Uganda A lost the first four wickets for 32 runs, and a thrashing seemed certain. But Waiswa and Ramjani put Uganda’s chase back on track with middle-order resistance that underlined the depth of batting talent in the Cricket Cranes.

Still, Waiswa and Ramjani’s interventions still fell short of ending Uganda’s quest for a first win against Sri Lanka A. The hosts held on to secure an 11-run win that will give their visitors more learning lessons. Uganda coach Jackson Ogwang stressed that winning would not be the priority of the tour to Sri Lanka, but a winless expedition would not exactly be a source of inspiration for Brian Masaba and Co.

The gap between the two sides is given, but Uganda have had opportunities to snatch a win in their five encounters. Sunday’s clash at the Galle Oval was winnable, but the Cricket Cranes have consistently failed to close the deal.

Uganda have four more chances to change this narrative.
