The bishop of Nebbi Catholic Diocese Rt. Rev. Raphael Wokocrach has been appointed as the Metropolitan Archbishop of the Ecclesiastical province of Gulu Archdiocese.

In an announcement made by the pope's representative his excellence Archbishop Luigi Bianco Apostolic Nuncio to Uganda made the new changes on Friday, March 22, 2024 at Nebbi Cathedral.

“Pope Francis has appointed His Lordship Rt. Rev. Rt. Rev. Raphael Wokocrach replacing Archbishop Rt. Rev. John Baptist Odama after reaching the age limit according to canon law,” Biaco stated.

He also announced that the Archbishop Emeritus Rt. Rev. John Baptist Odama will remain the Apostolic administrator of Gulu Archdiocese until the new Archbishop assumes the canonical position on 13 April, 2024.

Speaking immediately after the announcement, Rt. Rev. Raphael Wokocrach accepted the new responsibility and asked the congregation to pray for him.

“As I take this new responsibility i request to pray for me,” Wokorach said.

Odama was born in Riki-Oluko Village, in present-day Arua District, in the West Nile sub-region, in the northern region of Uganda on July 20, 1947. 

He served as the Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Gulu, in Uganda, since January 2, 1999.
