Uganda is gearing up for a comprehensive nationwide census, with May 9, 2024, marked as the crucial reference night.

According to the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS), anyone within the country's borders on May 9 will be counted, regardless of their location.

The census will encompass various segments of the population, including households, institutions, the floating population, and security agencies such as the army, police, and prisons.

Everyone will be accounted for based on where they spent the night, according to UBOS officials.

In anticipation of the census, May 10 has been designated as a public holiday to encourage widespread participation and ensure an accurate count, as confirmed by Didacus Okoth, the spokesperson for UBOS.

Addressing journalists at the Police headquarters in Naguru, Kampala city, Okoth revealed that the Government has procured 120,000 tablets to facilitate the technology-driven exercise, which is anticipated to span nine days.

The exercise will start at 7:00am and end at 6:00pm hence calling for vigilance suspecting criminals might take advantage to raid homes and unsuspecting victims.
