President Yoweri Museveni has taken his vote hunt to the neighbouring districts of Ngora and Kumi as he seeks his seventh consecutive term in office early next year.

Ngora was carved out of Kumi in 2010, and the major economic activity in the district is farming, although other people depend on trade.

This is, according to the 2016 Ngora district hazard, risk and vulnerability profile by the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) in Kampala.

The OPM report says Ngora is among the districts with the least biomass cover in Uganda, and this results from indiscriminate tree felling to obtain charcoal, timber, wood fuel and brick baking in order to provide households' incomes and needs.

The indiscriminate tree felling has had a direct effect on the weather conditions of the district and food security in the area.

The OPM report also says the district has tourism potential, especially in the historical site of Apanyimo, beautiful scenery, varying cultural practices and spot fishing in the various satellite lakes.

It, however, says this industry is still small and under the control of the central government, and in Lake Bisina (Ramsar site), there are different rare bird species, mostly the Shoebill stork and the fox weaver, which is endemic to this area.

To improve the marketing of farmers’ farm products, there was a proposal to establish community outlet centres for bulking, value addition and marketing of farmers’ farm products in the sub-counties.

By the time of writing this story, Museveni was set to address his first campaign rally of the day (Tuesday, November 4, 2025) at Ngora Demonstration Primary School, which is associated with Bishop Kitching College, and his second and final event at Wiggins Secondary School playground in Kumi Municipality.

In the last general election, Museveni garnered 24,662 (57.12%) in Ngora, while his main rival, Robert Kyagulanyi of the National Unity Platform party, got 2,237 (5.18%).

In Kumi, Museveni polled 38,234 (56.74%) votes and Kyagulanyi got 2,105 (3.12%).

Museveni is seeking re-election on the National Resistance Movement party ticket.

He is campaigning for a seventh term under the theme: Protecting the Gains, Making a Qualitative Leap into High Middle-Income Status.

The theme focuses on safeguarding achievements in the last 39 years, such as peace and development, while aiming to propel Uganda to a high middle-income status.
