The National Resistance Movement (NRM) party Member of Parliament (MP) candidate for Amuru district-based Kilak North County, Anthony Akol, has retained his seat.
Akol emerged winner of the hotly contested race, garnering up to 9,676 votes, against his closest contender, Kenneth Okot, an independent candidate who obtained 6,521 votes.
Okot, who is the reigning chairperson of Atiak town council, had also been beaten by Akol in the National Resistance Movement party primaries.
Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party candidate Aggrey Akera emerged third in the race with 1,822 votes, while two independent candidates, Julius Omony and Jack Lakana Loum, trailed them with 374 and 120 votes, respectively.
Akol said in his victory speech that his new tenure in Parliament will be used to combat poverty and the Apaa land conflict.
FDC retains Kilak South
In Kilak South Constituency, Forum for Democratic Change party strongman Gilbert Olanya kept his seat in Parliament by polling 13,533 votes against his closest National Resistance Movement Party’s candidate, Michael Lakony, with 7,414 votes.
An independent Chankara Bernard trailed the pack with 420 votes to take to the bank.
In the Woman MP race, incumbent FDC’s Lucy Akello collected 20,957 to be declared the ultimate winner of the seat.
National Resistance Movement Party’s Concy Achiro got 11,958 votes, while Angeyo Lucy Kijange and Florence Aryemo, who ran as Independents, respectively polled 1,659 votes and 815 votes, respectively.
