The Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) presidential candidate, Maj. Gen. (rtd) Mugisha Muntu has assured his former commander-in-chief, President Yoweri Museveni, of protection once he retires.
The ex-army commander, who fought with Museveni during the bush war that brought the National Resistance Movement (NRM) to power in 1986, made the remarks on November 3, 2025, while campaigning at Nakaseke town council in Nakaseke district.
"Under my government, I will accord President Museveni a peaceful environment here without [him] going into exile just like it has been with former presidents of this country since 1962 when Uganda attained Independence from the British," he said.
"All I want in this country is to make sure that Uganda witnesses a peaceful change of power after President Museveni".
"We did not fight for President Museveni as an individual but for the cause of all Ugandans. It is I who will protect him to make sure that he becomes the first president to retire in his country peacefully because of what he has done for Uganda since 1986," Muntu added.
According to Muntu, change is inevitable, but they had thought that 'President Museveni would be the leader to change such a trend in the politics of our country'.
"I have passed through many temptations and I am the only one who has stood my ground after presiding over money, guns and authority as an army commander for nine years," he said.
What I said when I parted ways with President Museveni in 1999 is still the same, and it is I who will do this for Uganda.
Say no to money during campaigns
Muntu asked voters to shun voting leaders based on money and empty favours.
We want to construct an economy which will enable people to work for themselves, invest in agriculture and infrastructure development to the benefit of all citizens.
Muntu pledged to fight corruption and reset the country on the moral fabric which shall keep the values and standards of Africans.
