Yusuf ‘The Rolling Tiger’ Babu says it is his ambition to vie for the national heavyweight title in a few months to come.

This comes days after he outclassed Tanzania’s Alphonce ‘Mchumiatumbo’ Masumbuko to win the hotly anticipated eight-round thriller by unanimous decision.

Babu, a former national boxing team captain, looked deadly against Masumbuko and much improved since the unanimous defeat to veteran Hudson Muhumuza on his pro debut in October last year.

No wonder his performance overshadowed close ally, Dubai-based Musa Batantu, who was on the day’s main card at the event organised by Big Bang Promotions and dubbed Uganda Vs Dubai Night of Champions.

“My next move is to challenge the national title probably with Nicholas Buule the current reigning champion. My management is currently in talks with Buule’s camp and negotiations are moving on well,” Babu says.

“Locally, I want to first crush all my noisy opponents and put them to rest. I don’t want to leave any stone unturned. After I switch my focus to compete for continental and world titles,” he added.

This was Babu’s second fight in the paid ranks and the star is confident that not even the sky will be the limit to his career.

Batantu schools Onyango

At the same event, Batantu beat stubborn Ignatius Onyango by a split decision during their six-round light heavyweight contest.

His game plan was superb, using experience that spans over 15 years to contain Onyango.

In the day’s other undercard fight, Dubai-based lightweight Abdul Aziz Ssebulime defeated Nicholas ‘Biribamba’ Musomami by a split decision.

Dayan Gonzalez, the first Cuban boxer to fight on Ugandan soil, knocked out Jinja-based Zubair Nadhomie in the first round of their super featherweight contest.
