Vision Group’s Victoria Nampala played 66 strokes to win a silver in the women's singles of the 3rd Corporate Woodball Circuit won by Peninah Namugerwa (61 strokes) of the University of Kisubi (UNIK) at St. Joseph's Technical Institute Kisubi on Sunday.
Her performance was the most improved having taken several tournaments without winning a medal, and she attributed it to hard work.
“I did my training as guided and that was the result. This victory is a motivation and I am going to continue training hard to maintain a podium finish in every outing,” Nampala said.
It was a tight contest between her, the winner Namugerwa of UNIK, and the third finisher Zulfa Shafi of Zoe Woodball Club.
Another Vision Group player Diana Kyaligera finished 16th out of the 18 female players that competed in the women's singles.
In the men’s category, Titus Migadde (58 strokes) and Fred Turyakira (59 strokes) of the Ministry of Public Service finished first and third respectively for the public service to continue dominating corporate woodball with Moses Mwesigwa of UNIK finishing second with 58strokes.
Meanwhile, Eric Enabu and William Amuwe of the Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB) beat off stiff opposition from Ndejje’s Michael Makoha and Timothy Mugarura to win the men’s doubles.
They scored 51 strokes, beating Ndejje by a stroke as Zoe Woodball Club came third after their players Richard Njenge and Patrick Abura scored 58 strokes.
Uganda Woodball Federation president Mark Kayongo lauded the corporates for embracing the sport and urged players to train harder because the national team trials start soon.
