Despite Laszlo Csaba's controversial exit from Uganda during the 2008 qualification campaign, his legacy remains strong, notably his support for Ugandan talent in the paid ranks.

Csaba was instrumental in ushering several Ugandan players into European professional football and it was during his tenure that Cranes players such as Ibrahim Sekagya, Noah Babadi Kasule and David Obua among others made it to the big leagues.

Managerial record and achievements

His journey spanned clubs across Europe and Africa, with a notable stint as the Cranes coach between 2006-2008.

He was the Hungarian FA's Manager of the Year (2003-04) and the Scottish Football Writers' Association's Manager of the Year (2008-09).

Csaba's Record with the Cranes

During his tenure from 2006-2008, Csaba managed the Cranes for 730 days, covering 26 games, resulting in 14 wins, 5 draws, and 7 losses.

Under Csaba's guidance, the Cranes showed promising performances in the 2008 Afcon qualifiers, including a memorable 3-0 victory against Lesotho.

However, after a 0-0 draw against Angola in June 2008, Csaba departed for Hearts of Midlothian, leaving Bobby Williamson to supervise the two subsequent matches.

Now, 15 years later, sources suggest a possible reunion with Csaba following the mutual termination of Micho's contract.

Csaba's most recent role was with the Indian top-flight club, Chennaiyin FC. He currently serves as the Technical Director at Romanian Liga II side, Csikszereda.

When initially appointed, Csaba was not the first choice. After Tomislav Sivic's surprising departure, Csaba stepped in, signing a four-year contract.

He saw Uganda's FIFA ranking rise to 76th in December 2007, after memorable wins over African powerhouses Nigeria and Angola.

Csaba's earlier role with Uganda involved both the 2008 Afcon qualification and part of the 2010 Afcon campaign.

Despite some commendable victories under his leadership, Uganda narrowly missed out on both tournaments, the most painful being the 2008 qualifiers where they missed out on goal difference.
