There is a new passion for young people in the corporate world and universities.  Woodball came to Uganda in 2006 and has spread like wildfire.

It is among the medal sports contested at the Corporate Sports Network Games outing on Sunday at the Maroons Sports Grounds in Luzira.

Although it appears like a straight-forward game, where you use a mallet to pass a ball through gates, it requires a lot of concentration, just like it is with golfers.

On Sunday, several participants from the 36 companies that make up the Corporate Sports Network competed for top honours. At the end of the day, Hotel Africana, DTB Bank, and Vision Group won gold, silver, and bronze, respectively.

Hotel Africana emerged top with 140 strokes, while DTB Bank was second with 143 strokes, while Vision group, who missed the talismanic and seasoned player Victoria Nampala Bugembe managed a respectable third with 149 strokes. Vision Group’s trio of Godfrey Kibirige, Rose Nakandi and Charles Lubwama put up a great show in her absence.

A representative from the Uganda Woodball Federation of Uganda (UWBF) lauded the Corporate Sports Network for embracing the sport and urged players to train harder as some could make it to the national team.
