Uganda Cup
Semi-finals
Vipers v Kitara
KCCA v Kataka
The simmering rivalry between Vipers SC and Kitara FC will reach new heights as the two teams face off in the Uganda Cup semifinals, following Monday's draw at Serena Hotel in Kampala.
The matchup marks the latest chapter in a contentious relationship that began last season with Kitara's controversial 2-1 league defeat at St. Mary's Stadium, Kitende.
The rivalry intensified when Kitara eliminated Vipers in last season's Uganda Cup quarterfinals via penalties (5-4) after a dramatic 2-2 draw in Masindi.
Vipers later retaliated with a 2-0 league victory in the same venue, though the match was marred by unsavory accusations from both sides. This season's league encounter ended in a goalless stalemate at Kitende, setting the stage for another high-stakes clash.
For Kitara, the defending Uganda Cup champions, the tournament represents their last chance for silverware after falling out of the league title race. Vipers, meanwhile, aim to replicate their 2022/2023 domestic double by adding the cup to their likely league triumph.
In the other semifinal, record-holders KCCA (10-time winners) will face FUFA Big League side Kataka, who have already stunned URA and Police in their fairytale run. While KCCA view this as their sole remaining shot at glory, Kataka believe another upset is within reach.
The first legs will be played on May 3-4, with the return fixtures scheduled for May 17-18. With pride, history, and trophies at stake, both semifinals promise fireworks as Uganda's cup competition reaches its climax.
