Vipers v KCCA
KCCA FC supporters are ramping up preparations ahead of Saturday’s Uganda Cup final, where their team will face newly crowned Uganda Premier League champions, Vipers SC, at the FUFA Kadiba Stadium in Mengo.
With silverware on the line, the Yellow Army has taken to social media to mobilize fans, urging a massive turnout to support the team.
The hashtag #KadibaIsYellow has been trending on X (formerly Twitter) since Tuesday, capturing the growing anticipation among fans who believe KCCA can upset the formidable Vipers and end a six-year trophy drought.
In recent days, fan engagement has soared, with a notable spike in jersey sales. Supporters have flocked to the Philip Omondi Stadium in Lugogo, KCCA’s home base to buy official club kits in yellow (home), blue (away), and maroon (third).
Among those purchasing merchandise on Thursday was Beatrice Mao, a dedicated KCCA supporter and Kampala Lord Mayor aspirant in the upcoming general elections. Mao expressed optimism about the team’s chances in the final.
“It’s been a tough league campaign. We’ve underperformed, and this cup final is our last shot at redemption,” she said. “But I’m hopeful. The team’s strong finish in the league gives me confidence that we can win.”
A passionate Manchester United fan as well, Mao drew parallels between her Premier League club’s struggles and KCCA’s. She said a KCCA victory would be her much-needed source of joy.
“As a proud, registered Manchester United fan, this season has been a huge letdown. I didn’t enjoy it at all,” she said. “That’s why I’m putting all my faith in KCCA. Winning the Uganda Cup would truly lift my spirits.”
KCCA FC finished fifth in the Uganda Premier League this season, missing out on the title. Manchester United, meanwhile, suffered one of their worst Premier League finishes in history, placing 15th with just 42 points.
Their misery was compounded by a 1-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final, ending their hopes of European football next season.
As the final approaches, all eyes are on FUFA Kadiba Stadium. KCCA fans hope their passionate support and widespread mobilization will help push their team to glory.
KCCA last won the Uganda Cup in 2018—ironically, defeating Vipers 1-0 in the final held in Bukedea.
