Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) president Patrick Kanyomozi has welcomed the Real Sports Awards noting that these in addition to the others before them were started with the spirit of encouraging sportsmen.

He encouraged corporate companies that haven’t joined the promotion of sports to do so to benefit from the numerous opportunities that come with associating with sport.

“Let us continue supporting all the companies that come out to support sports. These awards were not started to fight the USPA awards and sports is very wide, and the more we have such, the more sport grows,” Kanyomozi noted.

“What is more important is the spirit of the awards which is to encourage and motivate sportsmen to do better. We look at you as people who are out to do good for sport, so continue promoting and encouraging and motivating the sportsmen,”

“I want to thank the Real Stars for this initiative and for growing the awards. I hope many more sponsors can come on board because the idea is to inspire our athletes into excelling in their different disciplines,” Kanyomozi who picked Fahad Bayo’s Award stated.

Bayo’s two goals in the World Cup qualifier double-header against Rwanda earned him the football category award ahead of Crested Cranes and U-20 Women’s Fauzia Najjemba and Cranes custodian Charles Lukwago.

Joseph Aredo walked away with the Rugby award for his outstanding display in the Guinness 7s where he is the lead point scorer (107) while Latif Sendyowa (Tennis), Irene Nakalembe (Golf), Pascal Mulungi (Cricket) also won in their respective categories.

“I dedicate this to my team because this belongs to them because we worked as a team to win all those matches,” Aredo said after picking his award from Fortebet Ambassador Alex Muhangi.

“I can’t take it for granted and I thank God for this because we are many cricketers and I dint know such an award existed,” Mulungi said.

“I want to thank my coaches who have helped me to achieve this because without them it would be impossible,” youngster Ssendyowa who won his two singles games and won the doubles with Ambrose Byaruhanga in the East African U-12 championship at Lugogo said.

Jude Colour Solutions Zzimbe urged the winners not to let their guard down but to always aim for the best.
