Woodball coach Eric Enabu has praised the performance levels displayed at the National Beach Woodball Open Championship, held Sunday at Bujanko Beach, Mpigi District.

The one-day event produced standout winners, with Brian Gwaka of Kampala International University clinching the men’s singles title and Joan Mukoova of the Ministry of Public Service taking the women’s crown.

Enabu noted that most participants scored between 34–41 strokes over 12 fairways, a promising sign for the national team’s future.

“First, I was overwhelmed by the big number of players who turned up for the year’s opener, but I was impressed with the performance,” he said.

“Scoring between 34–45 for the podium finishers is encouraging. With regular training and competitions, coaches will be able to select strong national teams, especially for the Malaysian Woodball World Cup in July.”

Men’s competition

To win the season-opening event, Gwaka carded 34 strokes, edging out stiff competition from Darry Gilles Amanyire of Ndejje University and Michael Oming of Kyambogo University, who tied on 37 strokes for second and third place.
