Uganda showed a lot of class as they came back to defeat Madagascar at the Africa Rugby Women’s Cup in Antananarivo on Wednesday.

Coach Charles Onen’s charges needed a big performance after losing to South Africa in the first match and they delivered big with a 24-20 victory over Madagascar.

“We changed our approach to the game. We learned from our previous loss and made key adjustments to our plan. Madagascar is a running team and we needed to match their game speed by doubling our efforts. It was a tough contest but the ladies fought for each other throughout the game,” Onen said.

The occasion of the first match could have also put a lot of pressure on the team but they showed a lot of desire and the game awareness of players like Grace Nabaggala who helped Uganda score the match winning try was impressive.

Uganda played as a unit when they took on Madagascar and will need to tap into that when they take on Kenya who narrowly lost to South Africa 19-12. It will be a huge test on Uganda who are playing at this level for only the first time since 2019.

 On Sunday Uganda who have picked up knocks in the two-match days will need to master another level in order to get victory number two over Kenya. Kenya lost narrowly to South Africa and will be looking to improve.
