Cops arrest UPDF in rain-soaked netball thriller

The heavens opened over Kampala at midday on Saturday, but instead of washing out the Uganda Netball League fixture, the deluge forged a cauldron of war.

In a breathless, physical contest played under a torrential downpour, Police NC proved they are the masters of chaos, edging out UPDF Netball Club 48-41 in a match that was as much about grit as it was about goals.

From the first whistle, the encounter descended into a high-stakes battle where every possession was fiercely contested. The army side, UPDF, drew first blood by unleashing their lethal weapon early, the towering and physically imposing Goal Shooter, Kajumba. She sought to bully the Police circle with her aerial dominance, hoping to use the wet conditions to her advantage.

However, law and order prevailed in the defensive third. Police Goal Keeper Emily Nagawa delivered a masterclass in agility, rising to the challenge despite the slippery ball.

Nagawa was a relentless force, repeatedly intercepting UPDF’s feeds into the circle with spectacular aerial takes, completely neutralizing the army side's primary attacking threat and frustrating their rhythm.

At the opposite end, the Cops found their footing on the treacherous court. Goal Shooter Akello was the anchor of the Police attack, putting on a shooting clinic with clinical accuracy.

Unfazed by the weather or the physicality of the UPDF defenders, Akello’s ice-cold composure under the net kept the Police side consistently ahead. She converted every defensive turnover generated by Nagawa into vital points, steering her team to a hard-fought victory.

The win underscores Police NC’s resilience and cements their status as serious title contenders, while UPDF will rue their inability to capitalize on their early tactical advantage in a game that swung on moments of individual brilliance.
