UCU Lady Canons and KCCA Leopards picked up big wins in the National Basketball League (NBL) games played on Monday afternoon at YMCA Courts in Wandegeya.
Lady Canons too strong for Nkumba
UCU Lady Canons extended their winning streak with a dominant 81-47 victory over Nkumba Lady Mariners.
They started strong, winning the first quarter 20-9, and went even harder in the second with a 20-5 run. They led 40-14 at halftime.
Forward Martina Anyango led the charge, scoring 16 points and grabbing 7 rebounds in the first half outscoring the entire Nkumba team by herself at that point.
In the third quarter, UCU kept control with a 20-10 edge. Debutant Sharifa Nalwadda added 6 points and 7 rebounds to boost the team.
Nkumba managed to win the last quarter 22-21, but the game was already out of reach. Sylvia Nakituka led all scorers with 17 points and 8 rebounds.
The win puts UCU in fourth place on the 12-team log. Nkumba drop to eighth.
Leopards roar past Nabisunsa
UCU Lady Canons will be back in action on April 23rd when they take on JT Lady Jaguars at Lugogo Arena.
KCCA Leopards were also in fine form, beating Nabisunsa Girls 84-49 in the day’s second game.
Tracy Namugosa starred for the Leopards with 22 points, while Tong Wek Adut added 10. On the Nabisunsa side, Abigail Mpoza scored 18 points, and Martha Yikuru had 11.
KCCA led 19-13 after the first quarter, with Sharia Nakirya hitting a three-pointer at the buzzer. Namugosa’s layup just before halftime pushed their lead to 12 points.
The Leopards blew the game open in the third quarter, outscoring Nabisunsa 34-8 to build a 35-point lead.
Although Nabisunsa tried to respond in the final quarter, the Leopards stayed in control to finish with a well-earned victory.
KCCA now sit third in the standings with nine points. Nabisunsa remain in 10th place with six points from five games.
