Sport-S head coach Malic Damulira wants his players to improve their performance and minimise mistakes when the club's men's and women's teams face KCCA and UCU respectively in the 2026/27 National Volleyball League at MTN Arena on Friday.

The double-header comes as Sport-S seek to build on their success at the 2026 National Volleyball Club Championship, where both the men's and women's teams won their respective titles.

The coach says the team is in good spirits but must remain focused and improve in both attack and defence.

"We are prepared and the morale is quite good. We are trying to maintain that. However, we know KCCA is a team we need to be conscious of. We need to be good both offensively and defensively, and minimise all errors," he told Vision Sport.

The women's match against KCCA will be a tough test for Sport-S, with the Lugogo side having won their opening two matches without dropping a set.

KCCA beat Vision Volleyball Club (VVC) 3-0 before recording another straight-set victory over Uganda Christian University (UCU). They have six points, level with Seroma at the top of the standings, while Sport-S have three points from one match.

Sport-S will be hoping to end KCCA's winning run and move closer to the leading sides. However, they will need a strong performance against a team that has looked organised and consistent in its opening matches.

The men's side also faces a demanding challenge against UCU. Sport-S opened their campaign with a 3-0 win over Elyon, while UCU lost 3-1 to Bukedea.

The teams last met in the men's final of the National Volleyball Club Championship, where Sport-S won 3-0 to claim the title. Despite that victory, Ddamulira expects UCU to put up a strong fight.

"I expect UCU to give us a challenge. They are one of the teams that always come in strong, and that makes us stronger. We do not need to make mistakes," he said.

The coach also identified serving as an area that needs improvement, admitting that the team struggled in that department.

"We struggled with our serving during our first game. We are working on that problem. For the men, we need to be stronger," he added.

KCCA will have a busy weekend after facing Sport-S, with further women's matches against Nemostars and Nkumba.

Nemostars will be looking to recover after losing their opening match to Seroma, while Nkumba will be seeking a response following their defeat to UPDF.

In the men's division, Saturday's programme features Bukedea against Elyon, KCCA versus Police and Nemostars against KAVC.

Sunday's matches will see Tigers face Police, Prisons take on Bukedea, Police meet KAVC and UCU play Tigers.

The women's programme on Saturday includes VVC against Nkumba, Sport-S B versus UPDF, Nemostars against KCCA and KCB-Nkumba against UCU.

On Sunday, UCU face UPDF, Nemostars meet Sport-S B, while KCB-Nkumba take on VVC.

Prisons lead the men's standings with seven points from three matches. In the women's standings, KCCA and Seroma are joint leaders with six points each, while Sport-S have three points from one match.
