SPORT-S enjoyed a successful double-header in the Uganda Volleyball League on Friday, with both their men’s and women’s teams recording victories at Lugogo Indoor Stadium.

The women defeated defending champions KCCA 3-0, while the men overcame Uganda Christian University (UCU) 3-1 to extend their winning start to the season.

Women’s captain Doreen Akiteng said the victory over KCCA came from the team’s preparation and ability to adjust during the match.

“We knew KCCA is a team we needed to be conscious of. We targeted to be good both offensively and defensively playing against the defending champions. They are so good, but we managed to win the game,” Akiteng told Vision Sport.

SPORT-S had to recover after KCCA put them under pressure with their service and reception in the opening stages.

“The first set we chased, and in the second set they had a good service we failed to receive, but then we had to recompose ourselves. And then we managed to pass, and eventually we went aggressive on them. We struggled with our serving during our first game. We worked on that problem, we need to maintain this form,” she added.

Akiteng said the side would continue to build on its attacking strength as the league progresses.

“Looking forward to the coming games, we are going to capitalize on our aggressiveness, because we are a good team. Attack is the way to go, the moment we receive, we serve so well ,” she said.

SPORT-S took the first set 25-20 after trailing 6-10 before fighting back to lead 13-10. They carried that momentum into the second, winning 25-18 after the teams had been level at 13-13.

KCCA put up another fight in the third set, but SPORT-S held on to win 25-19 and complete the straight-set victory.

The result gave SPORT-S their second successive win after beating KCB-Nkumba 3-1 in their previous match. It also ended KCCA’s unbeaten start, having opened with 3-0 victories over Vision Volleyball Club and UCU.

In the men’s contest, SPORT-S beat UCU 3-1, winning the first set 25-12. UCU responded with a 25-21 victory in the second, but SPORT-S regained control with a 25-20 win in the third before closing out the match 25-22.

The men had also won their opening fixture, defeating Elyon 3-0.
