St. Lawrence University(SLAU) held off International University of East Africa(IUEA) to grab a 3-1 away victory under a scorching sun at Lukuli grounds in Nsambya on Friday.

SLAU captain David Balondemu opened the scoring in the 37th minute from a well taken corner kick before Innocent Matege, and Peter Kaye registered their names too on the scoring sheet which handed them a much needed victory.

Bino Marker scored the only goal for IUEA in the 48th minute before he missed a glorious chance to give his side a lead in the 60th minute when he missed a penalty.

This was SLAU’s second victory after thumping Nkumba University 3-1 at Crown City in Kavule during their opening game recently.

Hassan Wasswa’s sides’ effort to bag their first win in the Pepsi University Football League faced a difficult hurdle following a 1-1 draw against Gulu University.

And a win at home would be important for his side, However, a 1-3 loss leaves them in a difficult situation with one point from two games.

SLAU head coach Davis Nnono applauded his side for putting up a much needed resistance over a determined side.

“It was a tight game but what I can say is that we were just lucky to take the day. Our opponent had so many chances to get a good result out of this game,”

“We were playing a very improved, competitive and aggressive side which knows what to do. The fact that they have a right technical team, they are going to be a competitive side in the group,”

“This is game four, we still have more 12 points to fight for which means we cannot play around wasting time because all the teams have greatly improved a lot compared to how they were last season.” said Nnono.

A second straight 3-1 victory takes SLAU comfortably to the top of Group E with 6 points.

Action continueso on Sunday as Bugema hosts Kabale University today in Luwero district.
