Sports Minister Peter Ogwang has flagged off the She Cranes team that is set to compete in the Vitality National Cup with a call on them to return home after the event.

This was at Lugogo Indoor Stadium where he handed over the flag to team captain Irene Kyaru.

“Our plea is that you keep maximum discipline and return home after the tournament. We can then assist you to go back officially to the teams that may get interested in you,” noted the minister.

He urged the players to do their best on the pitch to improve the national team ranking that has dropped one position from 6 to 7 in the world.

The minister announced that the government has given an allowance of sh1m to each of the players and team officials on the contingent for the Vitality tournament.

The contingent is made up of 13 players and five officials led by the coach Fred Mugerwa, the assistant Peace Proscovia, team physiotherapist Norman Stephen, team manager Cecilia Anyakoit, team administrator Leticia Namutebi, and Champlain Sarah Nkonge.

The She Cranes will start with three trial games against Wales on January 10, 12, and 13 before the actual tournament between January 20-27.

In the tournament, the She Cranes will play England on January 20, and New Zealand on January 21 before playing Australia on January 27.

The team leaves on January 6 afternoon aboard Turkish Airlines via Doha.
