Seroma Christian High School has earned six spots on Team Uganda for the upcoming inaugural African Schools’ Games, set to take place in Algeria from July 26 to August 5.
The Mukono-based school is building on its impressive performances at the recent Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) games held in Ngora, as well as strong showings at regional championships.
Seroma will represent Uganda in several disciplines, including: Beach Volleyball (Girls), Table Tennis (Boys and Girls),Badminton, and Basketball 3x3 (Boys and Girls), where they finished runners-up to St. Mary’s Kitende.
Amelia Kyambadde, the school’s Resident Director, described their participation as a strategic move to expose and nurture the growing talent at the school, which she attributes to the benefits of the new curriculum.
“The new curriculum is very demanding for young learners, and in terms of sports, we are committed to identifying, nurturing, and developing talent that we hope to showcase on the international stage,” she said.
“We’ve already taken senior athletes to international competitions in Bahrain and Serbia, where we set three national swimming records. Now, we’re aiming to give our junior athletes African-level exposure.”
Other confirmed Ugandan representatives include: Gayaza High School – Tennis (Girls), Ngora High School – Beach Volleyball (Boys) and Buddo S.S. – Football (USSSA defending champions).
Last week, the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) Local Organizing Committee (LOC) convened to assess Uganda’s readiness for the games, which will also serve as a precursor to the 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, Senegal.
The meeting, chaired by Duncans Mugumya—Commissioner of the Department of Physical Education at the Ministry of Education and Sports—also included representatives from the Uganda Olympic Committee, National Council of Sports, and USSSA. The committee agreed to add Athletics and Gymnastics to Uganda’s list of participating disciplines.
While Uganda initially planned to compete in 13 sports, the final delegation will participate in 9 disciplines at the games.
