The Rotary Club of Kyadondo amassed 95 stable ford points to win the Annual Rotary Golf Tournament played at the Uganda Golf Club on Friday.
Kyadondo was inspired to the championship by Michael Tumusiime, Tony Kisada and Richard Mwami who ensured they beat Ssese Rotary Club to the championship by 30 points.
Ssese’s best players included Sam Muwanga, Nila Manzi, Anne Abeja and Andrew Muguluma in the annual charity tournament from which Rotarians raise money to fund different projects through the game of golf.
Proceeds from the event are going to be channeled to the Rotary Foundation that supports different projects worldwide including in Uganda.
The Rotary Club of Kyadondo will also use part of the proceeds to continue supporting Naigobya primary school in Luuka District where an early learning center is being built.
“We are also supporting the boy-child in Kamwokya where there are many that are unemployed and because of that they get involved in crime, so we partnered with a vocational training institute who are going to train about 40 boys and a few girls who are going to receive technical instruction for nine weeks that will eventually empower them with building skills after the certification course,” UGC captain Emmanuel Wamala who is also a Rotarian said.
“One of our members has guaranteed employment for them after and with that they will be able to get an income and we believe with that, the rate of crime will reduce,” Wamala noted.
The District Governor Edward Kakembo Nsubuga thanked the Rotarians for supporting humanity and called on the non-Rotarians to join to make the world a better place.
“It is so gratifying to build schools and hospitals where your children will never study or get treatment from. So I would like to urge everyone to join Rotary so we can serve humanity,” Kakembo said.
The chief guest Kenyan High Commissioner to Uganda George Owinow also pledged to support Rotary through a corporate social responsibility arrangement from the embassy.
Rotarian Stephen Kitonsa won an air ticket from the raffle draw that was held from the tickets that were sold as a part of the fundraising drive towards the same cause.
Earlier on Thursday at the same course, on form Venny Birusha had emerged overall winner of the Kenya Pipeline Company Golf Tournament with 42 points. It was organized to celebrate their fifty years of service in Uganda.
The top male players included Tushar Doshi, Rodney Turyatemba and Collin Subbika who returned 40 and 39 points respectively while Sarah Nduhukire (39pts), Peace Kabasweka (36) and Ruth Ssali (36pts) were the top ladies.
