Primary Schools woodball tournament attracts historic turnout

A historic field of 28 districts has officially confirmed participation in this year’s Uganda Primary Schools Sports Association (UPSSA) Games, scheduled to take place at Mubende Army Primary School.

The highly anticipated tournament has broken all previous registration milestones, attracting the largest number of woodball-playing districts and primary school institutions in the sport's history in Uganda.

According to the official tournament draws released today, the Under-14 Boys category will feature a fierce regional battleground as Obongi, Lwengo, hosts Mubende, Koboko, and Moyo districts face off. Meanwhile, the Under-14 Girls division promises absolute fireworks, with Luwero, Kassanda, Wakiso, Nakaseke, Kira, Mubende, Obongi, and Njeru headlining a stacked group stage.

The developmental tiers are equally competitive. The Under-12 Girls category features heavyweights Wakiso, Kabale, Mubende, Koboko, Butambala, and Amuria. In the Under-12 Boys division, the title race will be contested among Kassanda, Mubende, Nakasongola, Luwero, Kira, Wakiso, Nansana, and KCCA.

The competitive matches, scheduled to run from Friday, August 28, through Sunday, August 30, 2026, will offer hundreds of young grassroots athletes an elite platform to showcase their technical prowess.

Uganda Woodball Federation (UWBF) General Secretary Collins Adams Kato emphasized that this unprecedented turnout offers the federation a golden scouting pipeline.

“Our long-term blueprint centers heavily on identifying and nurturing grassroots talent to consistently feed our junior and senior national teams," Kato stated.

"This tournament provides us with a phenomenal opportunity to spot talented youngsters who will secure the future dominance of our national woodball programs."
