The Uganda Primary Schools Sports Association (UPSSA) held its first general assembly on Thursday, October 8, 2026, since its establishment in 1991, bringing together 95 delegates at Sports View Hotel in Kireka.
The assembly marked a significant milestone in the association's efforts to strengthen its administration, improve coordination and promote sports development at the primary school level.
Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) president Justus Mugisha, who attended the meeting, urged UPSSA to align its sporting calendar with that of USSSA to improve coordination and avoid clashes during competitions.
"I encourage you to align your calendar with ours to avoid clashing as you organise games. When you are in the West, let us be in the East. By doing so, we will be expanding and developing sport in various parts of the country," Mugisha said.

Mugisha's remarks highlighted the importance of collaboration between the two associations in creating a coordinated sports calendar that allows more schools and regions to participate in competitions.
UPSSA president William Bwambale applauded the 95 delegates for attending the inaugural assembly, pledging that the meeting would become an annual event to strengthen the association through collective decision-making.
"We want to see the association grow. It can grow through joint ideas. When we meet every year, we meet for the good of the association, hoping that the ideas tabled at the assembly will help it grow," Bwambale said.
The assembly also approved a budget of Shs1.2 billion for the association's activities next year, with funding expected from the Ministry of Education and Sports, local governments and well-wishers, alongside potential sponsorships.
Bwambale said the association was optimistic that increased publicity would help attract sponsors and provide the resources needed to implement its programmes and expand its activities.
"Our money comes from three sources: the ministry, local governments and well-wishers. Hopefully, with enough publicity, we shall get sponsorship that will help us smoothly conduct our activities," he said.
The inaugural assembly is expected to provide a platform for delegates to share ideas, discuss the association's priorities and contribute to the growth of primary school sports across the country.
