Police FC's head coach, Simon Peter Mugerwa, expressed pride in his team’s resilience following their hard-fought 2-1 win over Mbale Heroes at Kavumba Recreation Ground.

This victory, coming on the heels of a loss to league leaders Vipers, was crucial in lifting Police to fourth in the league standings with 10 points. Mugerwa noted, “I'm happy with the three points. We needed a quick response after a defeat at Vipers, and we needed to win.”

Striker Ben Ocen opened the scoring in the 23rd minute, taking advantage of a rebound after Mbale Heroes’ goalkeeper Delton Oyo’s save landed in his path. Mbale Heroes equalized early in the second half with Umar Kyebatala’s header, following a smooth play between Ceasor Olega and Jeremy Matata. However, Police FC secured the win when Isaac Ogwang found the net in the 85th minute, marking their first home victory of the season.

Despite the win, Mugerwa highlighted areas for improvement, particularly in defensive transitions, noting the need to better defend after losing possession.

“We need to work on the way we conceded the equalizer and find ways to strengthen our defensive transitions,” he explained, emphasizing upcoming training focus.

For Mbale Heroes, the loss continued a winless streak under coach Asaph Mwebaze, placing them second from last in the standings. Mwebaze acknowledged the defensive errors, saying, “We played well but gave away cheap goals that cost us the points. We will work on these areas to improve.”

In other league action, Lugazi earned a narrow 1-0 win over NEC, with Sam Ssemugugu scoring the decisive goal, marking a strong start for new coach Steven Bogere. Looking ahead, Thursday will see more competition, as Wakiso Giants take on Express at home, BUL faces Bright Stars in Najjembe, and KCCA challenges Maroons at Lugogo.
