PICTORIAL: Kitara FC held by SC Villa as CAF Confederation Cup  looms

Kitara FC's 2026/27 Uganda Premier League campaign got off to a frustrating start as they were held to a 1-1 draw by SC Villa at Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku, on Saturday.

Despite creating several clear scoring opportunities, the Royals struggled to find the back of the net, with substitute Crispus Asiki coming to the rescue with a stoppage-time equaliser in the 94th minute.

Head coach Wasswa Bbosa, visibly frustrated by his side's wastefulness, said improving their finishing is now a top priority ahead of Sunday's CAF Confederation Cup first preliminary round clash against Mogadishu City FC at Hoima City Stadium.

Patrick Kaddu, Jimmy Kalema, and Living Kabon all had chances to score but failed to convert, with Kabon's left-footed effort even striking the post after Villa goalkeeper David Lukwago had missed the ball entirely.

SC Villa were equally wasteful, with Reagan Mpande firing a weak effort straight at Kitara goalkeeper Meddie Kibirige after being played through on goal in the 56th minute.

Villa's Patrick Kakande admitted after the match that his side had only themselves to blame for the draw, citing a loss of concentration in the closing stages.

Both sides walk away with a point from their opening league fixture, but for Kitara, attention now shifts to continental action as they prepare to host Somalia's Mogadishu City in the CAF Confederation Cup.
