FUFA Super Cup
Saturday
Vipers SC 3 Kitara FC 1
Abdulkarim Watambala and Gusto Mulongo scored second-half goals as Vipers SC defeated Kitara FC 3-1 on Saturday night at Hamz Stadium Nakivubo to win the FUFA Super Cup.
Odili Chukwuma gave the Venoms the lead in the first half when he rose highest to head past Kitara goalkeeper Joel Mutakubwa.
It was the only goal before the break, although Vipers thought they had doubled their advantage through Farouk Miya, only for the goal to be disallowed after Watambala was ruled offside in the build-up.
Kitara returned for the second half with greater urgency and pressed hard for an equaliser. Their efforts paid off in the 63rd minute when former Vipers player Martin Kizza found the net to level the score at 1-1.
The equaliser, however, did not last long. Five minutes later, Watambala restored Vipers' lead with a well-struck left-footed effort.
Vipers then sealed the victory in the 78th minute when Miya delivered a teasing corner kick, which Mulongo met with a powerful header to make it 3-1.
The victory also marked the first trophy for head coach Dennis Lavagne, who joined the club in July.
The FUFA Super Cup is contested between the reigning Uganda Premier League (UPL) champions and the Uganda Cup winners ahead of the start of a new season. Vipers qualified as the UPL champions, while Kitara entered the match as Uganda Cup holders.
Both teams will now turn their attention to the 2026/27 UPL season, which gets underway on August 28 with Vipers hosting UPPC at St Mary's Stadium Kitende.
Vipers will begin their title defence against Entebbe UPPC at St Mary's Stadium, Kitende, while Kitara will travel to face SC Villa at Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku, on August 29.
