Bukoto Market and its surrounding public spaces were the focus of a community clean-up on Saturday as four organisations joined efforts to improve sanitation in the busy Kampala neighbourhood.
Betika Uganda, SafeBoda, Radio Simba and Ntugasaze FC teamed up for the exercise, which aimed to improve the cleanliness of spaces used daily by traders, residents and commuters.
The clean-up, held in support of Uganda's National Cleaning Day, started at Kira Road Police Station at 7:00 am on Saturday, October 31, 2026, with officers from the station joining the participating teams as they headed towards Bukoto Market.
The exercise comes amid calls for collective responsibility in maintaining clean public spaces, particularly in busy urban areas where markets and roads serve large numbers of people.

National Cleaning Day is a government-led initiative observed on the last Saturday of every month under the theme, "A Clean Uganda is Everybody's Responsibility."
Desire Akanduhura, the marketing lead at Betika Uganda, said the exercise was part of the company's efforts to contribute to the communities where it operates.
"Being a responsible brand goes beyond running a business. It means actively contributing to the communities we serve. We're proud to join SafeBoda, Radio Simba and Ntugasaze FC in supporting this national initiative and making a practical difference at Bukoto Market," Akanduhura said.
Christian Wamambe, SafeBoda's country director, said cleaner streets and markets were important to the daily lives of riders, customers and other city residents.
"Kampala's streets and markets are part of everyday life for our riders, customers and communities. Keeping these spaces clean is everyone's responsibility, and we're pleased to work alongside our partners to make a positive contribution," Wamambe said.
The collaboration brought together organisations from the gaming, transport, media and sports sectors, with Radio Simba supporting community awareness and Ntugasaze FC extending its partnership with Betika beyond football.
The partners called on traders, residents and businesses to maintain clean surroundings beyond the monthly exercise, urging communities to make sanitation a daily responsibility.
Betika Uganda is a gaming operator regulated by the National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board.
