After eliminating defending champions Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) from this season’s competition, Nkumba University captain Keneddy Ssewankambo is confident that his side will sail through the semifinals of the Pepsi University Football League.

“We are going to do our best to go to the finals by beating SLAU, our rival in the group stages. It wasn't an easy tie, they are a more experienced team than us but we shall put in more work and we believe in ourselves,” Ssewankambo said during the launch of the semifinals of the 11th edition of the Uganda Football League in Kampala.

Nkumba who was pooled in Group E alongside SLAU, Gulu, and IUEA triumphed to the quarterfinals as second best having five wins, one draw, and one loss.

However, the Beach Boys' major highlight this season was eliminating UMU at their home ground 2-1 on aggregate.

SLAU captain David Balondemu is equally confident that his side is in shape this is the year for his side to claim their first championship glory.

“We thank God to be at this level for the fourth time in history. I applaud my team, we are facing Nkumba, and I know it is going to be a good tie, the best team will win. We have knocked for long as SLAU but I am confident that this is our year to win,” noted Balondemu.

Meanwhile, in another semifinal tie, Uganda Christian University (UCU) will face two-time champions Makerere University Business School (MUBS).
