Nemostars v KCCA 6pm

The National Volleyball League will launch this weekend at Old Kampala Arena with two matches between Nemostars and KCCA for Men and KCCA and Sport-S for women.

This follows the conclusion of the National Club Championships finals for the men at the same venue where Sport-S defeated the UCU Doves 3-0.

It is evident coming into this one Sport-S is the men’s team to beat and whoever isn’t taking them seriously isn’t familiar with their game. They have been the most solid team on the land and have taken advantage of the weaknesses in other clubs to flourish.

While Nemostars hasn’t won a significant title in the last two seasons, in their semifinal loss against UCU in Mbarara they showed big improvement in their game. Nemostars and KCCA had some good duels last season although the former always found a way to defeat KCCA. KCCA will need to come ready for a battle for the ages because it’s the first day of the season and all teams always want to perform to the best of their ability.

Nemostars still have the likes of George Aporu and Smith Okumu who are still good leaders in the team but aren’t firing at the same rate as they did in the past. If their newer players can put up big strong performances maybe they will raise their level above the usual.

For the women the Ndejje Elites defeated Sport-S so this match will be a good measure of how much they have improved since the finals last year. They faded very badly in the finals last season and KCCA was able to win the championship.

Sport-S have played solidly in the last few weeks starting with their final berth in the National Championships where they lost to Ndejje.
