KCCA FC climbed to the top of the Uganda Premier League table with an impressive 5-0 win over Maroons FC on Thursday at the Philip Omondi Stadium, Lugogo, bringing their points tally to 17.

KCCA's dominance was clear from the start.

Midfielder Ashraf Mugume opened the scoring just three minutes in, followed by a goal from teenage forward Abu Mayanja in the 43rd minute.

Maroons’ goalkeeper, Simon Tamale, had a tough game, contributing to three of KCCA's goals through costly errors.

One of Tamale's mistakes came just before halftime when midfielder Saidi Mayanja spotted him out of position and lofted the ball over the stranded keeper from the centre of the pitch, extending KCCA’s lead to 3-0.

In the second half, KCCA's winger Shafik Kwikiriza added to the scoreline in the 66th minute, threading his way through Maroons' defence and striking the ball into the top corner.

The final goal came in the 80th minute from substitute Sadat Anaka, who pounced on another error from Tamale to seal KCCA’s 5-0 victory.

This was Anaka's first game of the season after an injury layoff.

'Questionable yellow cards'

The Lugogo faithful celebrated KCCA’s rise to the top of the table, chanting the name of coach Abdallah Mubiru and the goal scorers at the final whistle.

Despite the victory, Mubiru expressed frustration with the officiating, led by referee Vincent Kavuma, citing questionable yellow cards in recent games, including five across the last two matches.

“I am extremely pleased with the team’s performance, but there are issues with officiating that need addressing.

"In today’s game and our previous match against Mbale Heroes, we have received some questionable yellow cards. Even our goalkeeper got a card after clearly being fouled,” said the KCCA coach.

KCCA remain the only unbeaten team in the league, with five wins and two draws from seven matches.

Their next match will be an away fixture against rivals Vipers at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, next Friday.

This encounter promises to be an intense showdown as Vipers are currently second on the table with 16 points, just one point behind KCCA.

Led by Mubiru’s former assistant, John Luyinda, Vipers are also in hot form.
