Friday 27th ( Lugogo)
Lady Jaguars v Lady Canons 7pm
UCU Canons v Namblazers 9pm
The National Basketball League (NBL) returns to the spotlight this Friday, June 27, as the red-hot Namuwongo Blazers put their unbeaten streak on the line against a determined UCU Canons side at Lugogo Indoor Arena.
The Blazers have been in imperious form this season, winning all 16 of their games and sitting comfortably atop the league table with 33 points. The big question now is: who can stop them? Many believe the UCU Canons might just be the team to do it.
Namuwongo enters this clash fresh off two hard-fought weekend victories. On Saturday, June 21, they dismantled the KIU Titans 84-63, thanks to a dominant first-quarter display. But Sunday’s game against the Rezlife Saints was a true test of their resilience. Trailing by six in the third quarter and five with just seven minutes remaining, the Blazers responded with a stunning 21-0 run to seal an 80-70 win.
James Okello led the charge with 14 points and 7 rebounds, while Henry Ssebagala was flawless, hitting all six of his field goal attempts to finish with 13 points. The performance showcased Namuwongo’s ability to stay composed under pressure and seize control in critical moments.
Now, they face another stern test in the UCU Canons, who are also riding high after a 66-59 win over the JKL Dolphins. The Canons currently sit fourth on the table with 27 points, level with the JT Jaguars, and just ahead of Victoria Crocs and Kampala Rockets, who are both on 26 points.
UCU will be looking to key players like Joel Kayiira—who posted a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds in their last outing—as well as Stephen Wokorach and Jimmy Otim, who each added 10 points.
On the Blazers’ side, stars such as Moses Mugisha, Peter Obleng, Tonny Drileba, James Okello, and Henry Ssebagala continue to shine. The recent addition of Ivan Muhwezi adds even more depth to an already formidable squad.
With their dream of an unbeaten regular season still alive, the Blazers know that every game presents a new challenge—and Friday’s clash is shaping up to be one of their toughest yet.
Women’s Division: Lady Jaguars vs. Lady Canons in Crucial Clash
In the women’s division, another blockbuster matchup awaits as the JT Lady Jaguars take on the UCU Lady Canons. UCU enters the game with momentum, having defeated both the JKL Lady Dolphins and KCCA Leopards in the second round, and most recently overcoming Magic Stormers 60-53.
The Lady Jaguars are also in top form, having thrashed the KIU Rangers 85-54 earlier this week. Mercy Batamuliza was the standout performer, delivering a monster stat line of 22 points, 20 rebounds, and 6 steals.
This game carries significant playoff implications. The Lady Jaguars lead the standings with 14 wins from 17 games, while the UCU Lady Canons, currently in fourth, are fighting to solidify their postseason spot.
