After winning the Mr. Kampala Bodybuilding Championship recently, Daniel Mwesigwa believes it is time to take the professional route.

Competing in the Universal Bodybuilding Championships is top on the agenda for Mwesigwa who wants to follow in the footsteps of several Ugandans who found a niche in the sport after excelling locally.

"I think am ready to take part in the continental bodybuilding championship being that I have finally conquered the local scene. I will now set my eyes on the Mr. Uganda championship after which focus will turn to the international stage,” Mwesigwa said.

His coach Steven Ssali believes his player is getting closer to achieving his goal.

"I am now sure that Mwesigwa is ready to represent the country in any continental and international bodybuilding championships having finally won the Mr. Kampala bodybuilding and fitness championship. He has the qualities to compete on the international scene. His confidence and commitment will make him outstanding," Ssali said.

Mwesigwa who is a natural bodybuilder stands better chances of getting a pro card because the bodybuilders who are using natural bodybuilding methods stand better and easier chances to get to the paid ranks.

Ssali also commended the athlete for the bold decision he made not to use supplements and embark on natural bodybuilding methods.

Mwesigwa, 24, trains at STS gym on Mukwano  Mall in  Kampala and attended Kololo  SSS. He competes under the lightweight category.

Mwesigwa started bodybuilding in 2016 after playing rugby in the early days of his high school.

He beat the 2019 champion Godfrey Lubega to the Mr. Kampala championship. Lubega couldn’t believe that Mwesigwa had dethroned him from the spotlight but promised to bounce back.
