The fourth round of the Mountain Dew National Motocross Championship will take off this weekend in Lira with renewed vigour after Vivo Energy sponsored this year’s FMU motocross season with sh50 million.

The managing director of Vivo Energy Uganda, Joanita Menya Mukasa, presented the sponsorship to FMU Deputy Vice President-Motocross Arthur Blick, who was in the company of treasurer Joseph Mwangale and some riders at Shell Muyenga Service Station on Thursday.

Mukasa said the partnership marks a significant milestone in the development of motocross in the country and reinforces Vivo Energy Uganda’s long-standing commitment to the advancement of local sport.

The sponsorship package will support several critical components designed to strengthen the sport’s infrastructure and competitiveness. Participating riders will benefit from access to Shell Advance lubricants and Shell V-Power fuel during selected races to ensure optimal engine performance. Scrutineering services will be provided at designated Shell service stations through Motorcare Express points, ensuring that all competing motorcycles meet essential safety and performance standards.

The sponsorship also includes safety reflectors for all race marshals, track safety tape, and branded materials to ensure events are conducted to the highest standards. In addition, a direct financial contribution will support FMU’s grassroots development programs and improvements in event infrastructure.

“We not only fuel the engines, but we also fuel the passion, dreams of young people, and fun, and to deliver the safety that the riders require and endless possibilities,” she stated.

“The sponsorship is also about building communities, promoting space where raw talent is nurtured and developed, and where safety and high standards are maintained,” Mukasa stated.

“This partnership is a strategic investment in performance, potential, and national pride. Motorsport thrives on quality performance, precision, endurance, and ambition, values that define both our business and Uganda’s young athletes. We are proud to stand behind the motocross community and to play an active role in driving the sport forward.”

Lubricants Sales Manager Francis Kajoki said the sponsorship reinforces their commitment to the sport in Uganda. He said they will offer their premium lubricant, Shell Advance Oil, and V-Power fuel to the riders and to the fans that will come for the different activities. He also urged FMU to ensure safety at the event.

Blick thanked Vivo Energy for their unwavering support of motocross in Uganda over the past decade that has propelled the growth of motorsport in the country, nurturing talent and creating new opportunities in the country.

“This sponsorship could not have come at a better time. Motocross is growing fast, especially among young people. Vivo Energy Uganda’s support is not only timely—it is transformational. It strengthens the foundations of the sport and gives our athletes the resources they need to compete and excel.”

He said they will use part of the sponsorship to spread the sport across the country in conformity with the new sports law. The partnership will be activated across a series of upcoming FMU motocross events, including the MX4 in Lira Omito, MX5 and MX8 in Garuga, and MX7 in Fort Portal.

Mwangale who is also the clerk of the course, said the blend of young talent and seasoned riders will have a chance to test the track up to Friday before he reminded all riders to renew their licenses promptly.

“It is a new sand track, and it is going to give our riders new experience. The track will remain open until Friday to offer all riders a chance to test it before the Sunday event,” Mwangale said.

This sponsorship forms part of Vivo Energy Uganda’s broader commitment to building a sustainable sporting legacy and engaging with communities in meaningful, long-lasting ways.
